Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the news that The Morvern Community Development Company has secured a £127,000 award from The Scottish Land Fund.
The Scottish Land Fund supports rural communities to become more resilient and sustainable through the ownership and management of land and land assets. It provides practical support and funding to enable local people to work together to develop their ideas and aspirations, put in place effective structures, and plan and complete viable land and land assets acquisition projects. It is funded by the Scottish Government and delivered in partnership by the Big Lottery Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
The group intends to purchase two plots of land in Lochaline on the Morvern peninsula, Argyll. One of the plots extends to 0.72 hectares and will be purchased from Forestry Commission Scotland and the other plot extends to 0.1 hectares.
Mr Thompson said, “I welcome the significant sum of £127,000 secured by the Morvern Community Development Company through the Scottish Land Fund.
“This will help develop sites for new affordable housing, visitor accommodation and a heritage centre/gift shop in the centre of the village, which is fantastic news for the area”.
