Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch is delighted to learn that Glengarry Community Woodlands has secured a £224,000 Scottish Land Fund Grant.
The Scottish Land Fund supports rural communities to become more resilient and sustainable through the ownership and management of land and land assets. It provides practical support and funding to enable local people to work together to develop their ideas and aspirations, put in place effective structures, and plan and complete viable land and land assets acquisition projects. It is funded by the Scottish Government and delivered in partnership by the Big Lottery Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
The group will purchase Glengarry Wood and the former Forestry Commission Depot at Invergarry, Inverness-shire. The purchase, under the National Forest Land Scheme, will bring 30 hectares of woodland into community ownership.
Mr Thompson said, “I am delighted to learn that Glengarry Community Woodlands has secured a £224,000 Scottish Land Fund Grant.
“The purchase of Glengarry Wood and the former Forestry Commission Depot will involve the woodland and former depot being developed and managed to provide a wide range of economic, social and environmental benefits to the local community, including new foot and cycle tracks, associated visitor infrastructure and new business opportunities, which is fantastic news”.
