Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch welcomed Dingwall Acadamy teacher, Margaret Kinsman (Registered BSL / English interpreter), and her five students (two deaf and three hearing) to the Final Stage of the BSL (Scotland) Bill, which was being debated on Thursday the 17th of September.
Dave said, “It was great to welcome Margaret Kinsman and the Dingwall Academy Students to the Parliament last week.
“I managed to get a chat with all of the students, as Margaret kindly relayed what I was saying to the two deaf children, who were then able to respond, highlighting the importance of sign language in society, and indeed the BSL (Scotland) Bill, which has achieved cross party consensus throughout the whole process.
“My office managed to secure Margaret tickets for the event, so we played a small part in facilitating the visit, however the group had planned to come for some time and I believe met other MSPs too”.
Margaret said, “The pupils had a fantastic time at Parliament and even managed to get to school the next morning.
“I do appreciate Dave helping us get to Parliament to see this important Bill passed”.
