Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch is delighted to learn that after the Scottish Government’s decision to call-in an earlier Highland Council recommendation that a single new school be built in Dunvegan to replace the existing Dunvegan Primary School (which would have meant the closures of Struan, Edinbane and Knockbreck Primary Schools), that Portree Sheriff Court has rejected Highland Council's appeal against a decision refusing consent to the proposed closures of four schools.
Mr Thompson said, “I am delighted that sense has prevailed and the concerns of parents have been listened to and that after the Scottish Government’s decision to call-in the proposals for an amalgamated school in Dunvegan, Portree Sheriff Court has rejected Highland Council's appeal against a decision refusing consent to the proposed closures of Denvegan, Struan, Edinbane and Knockbreck primary schools.
“I have been involved in this matter for some considerable time, backing parent concerns, and having originally wrote to the Minister for Learning, Alasdair Allan, asking that the original Highland Council decision be called-in.
“So, today’s news will come as very welcome news to parents and it is heartening to know that Scottish Government has listened on this matter, and better still, that an established legal outcome been reached”.
