Dear Dave Thompson MSP,
I am delighted to inform you that Broadford and Strath Community Company in your Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency has been successful in applying for a £1,106,019 grant from Big Lottery Fund’s Investing in Communities: Growing Community Assets
Working with a range of partner organisations, Broadford and Strath Community Company (BSCC) will develop and run a 50 pitch campsite on an area of a 23 ha mostly clear-felled woodland they purchased in 2011 situated next to the village of Broadford on Skye . The project will contribute to the regeneration of the local economy, environment and infrastructure, provide local employment, improve the health of the community in partnership with the adjacent hospital, health centre and healthy living groups, and deliver a wide range of learning and skills development opportunities in partnership with the neighbouring West Highland College and local schools. A community events space will also be developed within the woodland.
The project will benefit 7,642 people per year, generating volunteering opportunities for over 100 people on the site and business opportunities within the local economy through the addition of over 9,000 bed nights per year. Profit from the campsite will be used to maintain community facilities and fund a grant scheme for community groups.
Investing in Communities has a primary focus on tackling disadvantage and addressing inequalities and has three investment areas: Growing Community Assets, Life Transitions and Supporting 21st Century Life. We hope this funding stream will help those individuals, families and communities in greatest need in these challenging times. Please note that Investing in Communities is now closed to any new applications.
Please find attached our latest press release. We've sent you this release as a courtesy as we know you often like to welcome any new funding in your area. However we'd like to point out that there is a strict embargo of Wednesday 2nd of March and would ask you NOT to speak to the press or issue any welcoming statement until after that embargo passes. Please feel free to promote this award locally or in parliament on or after Wednesday.
Best wishes
Jackie Killeen
