Dave Thompson, MSP for Sky, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the announcement that two groups are to benefit from over £145,000 in funding from the Climate Challenge Fund.
The Lochaber Environmental Group has secured £115,131 in funding to promote initiatives aiming to reduce CO2 emissions locally. A team of ‘Energy Champions’ will visit households, B&Bs, hotels and community buildings to offer advice on reducing bills and keeping warm.
Urray and Kilchrist Church of Scotland has secured £30,660 in funding to improve their community hall with a modern insulation system. The initiative will also seek to raise local awareness of different ways or reducing the community’s carbon footprint.
Dave Thompson, who raised a parliamentary motion congratulating both groups, said:
“I’m delighted to be able to welcome this investment through the Climate Challenge Fund (CCF) in Lochaber and Urray. The CCF has distributed millions of pounds in funding to support direct action in tackling climate change by our communities.
The Lochaber Environmental Groups ‘energy champions’ will play a key role in improving energy efficiency and driving down bills which will not only help to achieve the aims of the Climate Challenge Fund, but will also aid the local economy.
Urray and Kilchrist Church of Scotland’s modern insulation system in the community hall will help reduce the operating costs and improve energy efficiency, while also raising awareness of the problem.
The Governments ambitious energy goals will be achieved not only through national initiatives but crucially through local groups in our communities reducing their carbon footprint. The CCF does valuable work in supporting these projects, and also highlighting examples of good practice. That is why I’m delighted to raise a parliamentary motion recognising the achievements of these groups, and I wish them every success for the future.
