Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has today welcomed the news that Comann nam Parant Port Righ on the Isle of Skye has recently been successful in applying to Communities and Family Fund of the Big Lottery and has secured a total of £8272 funding.
The Comann nam Parant Port Righ provides parents and children with the opportunity to learn and develop Gaelic language skills, through play. The grant will fund rent, staff training, refreshments, arts and crafts materials, Gaelic language tutor fees, play equipment, Gaelic books, and an information day to let more people know about the service.
Commenting on this, Mr Thompson said: “This is fantastic news for Comann nam Parant Port Righ.
“Gaelic is a beautiful language and we must do all we can to keep this part of our heritage alive.
“ The Groups give parents and children alike the opportunity to learn and develop their Gaelic language skills through play, making the learning process fun for young children. At such an early age, learning a new language is often a lot easier than it is for older children and adults. The ability to learn through fun is a great way for the language to be passed on to the younger generation.
“I would like to offer my congratulations to Mrs Faye MacNeil of Comann nam Parant Port Righ and hope that through their information day, more parents and children are able to join their groups and learn together to keep Gaelic alive.
Note:
The Communities and Families Fund is set to run over the next three years with £4.5 million from The Scottish Government and £1.5 million from the Big Lottery Fund. The £6 million fund offers grassroots projects the chance to get funding of between £250 and £10,000. This fund is focused on improving early learning, health and wellbeing for children under eight years old by supporting them, their families and communities.
