Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the opening of the new £215,000 Lochaline Marina.
The development includes a new Harbour office, showers, toilets, laundry and Wi-Fi on the shore of Loch Aline, only minutes from the village of Lochaline.
Dave said: “I am delighted that the Lochaline Marina will be formally opened tomorrow (Wed 17th July). It builds on the recent development of new pontoons in 2011. This is a major expansion of the facilities for the local Morvern Community, who made a significant contribution to the costs through the Morvern Community Development Trust
Led by Morvern Community Development Company (MCDC), the community successfully secured £150,000 from LEADER, £55,000 from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and contributed £10,000 themselves to develop the shore facilities to complement the pontoons. The company draws its membership from the local community and is governed by a board of voluntary directors. The marina supports a part-time manager, employed and funded by MCDC.
Dave added:
“These new facilities will improve the experience of visitors and those who live in the local community, and crucially encourage more spending in the remote community.
“This increased spend will have a positive impact on the local economy, and I look forward to visiting and seeing the new facilities myself.”
