Highlands and Islands SNP MSP, Dave Thompson attended the official opening of the highest wind farm in the UK today, Monday 14th September. The Millennium Wind Farm is located on the hills between Glen Garry and Glenmoriston, approximately 8 km to the west of Fort Augustus.

The wind farm consists of 20 turbines, which will provide power to the national grid. Although the farm is owned by Falck Renewables, the local community in Glenmoriston have an Equity share, which will ensure that local people benefit from the profits.

Commenting Dave said: "I am delighted to have been invited to visit the Millennium Wind farm, and attend the official opening. It was particularly good to see the schoolchildren, who named the 20 windmills, getting their book tokens at the official ceremony at the Millennium Hall in Invermoriston.

It is absolutely essential that we develop renewable energies in order to combat climate change and Scotland can play a leading part in this."
