Dave Thompson, MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, which some may be surprised to know includes Dingwall, the Black Isle, Aird and Loch Ness, was the guest of pupils at Resolis Primary School on the Black Isle, as they performed The Big Bang Show with Scottish Opera yesterday.
As part of its Primary Schools Tour, Scottish Opera joined pupils in Resolis several hours before the show was to take place to provide costumes, choreograph and rehearse the show. The pupils had spent several weeks learning lines in the run up to the show which was packed with parents, friends and Mr Thompson.
The show is a whistle stop tour of the creation of the Universe and it explores ‘Energy’ in all its different forms – wind, water, sun, fossil fuels and nuclear. The purpose is to encourage children to consider humanity’s responsibility to use energy wisely in order to preserve our precious resources.
Mr Thompson said, “The Big Bang Show is a brilliant way to combine the arts and science. It investigates our role in managing the planet and its resources, and encourages the next generation to think seriously about our fragile home, and prepares them for good citizenship.
“The children, adult performers and the audience thoroughly enjoyed themselves in a very worthwhile cause. Personally I was thoroughly entertained and I have no trouble at all admitting that it was educational too.
“Congratulations to Scottish opera on an innovative and thought-provoking road show.”
