Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has welcomed the news the three projects in Ross-Shire are to share almost £30,000 in funding from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All grant.
Youth Highland will engage with youth clubs across the Highland region to provide activities, volunteer training and develop youth programmes, delivering 75 youth work activity taster sessions and five joint club events. Dingwall Environment Group will raise the profile of their organisation by offering people the opportunity to take part in conservation and environmental education activities by developing a Green Gym and holding art sessions. Fortrose Academy will purchase a replacement mini bus which will be used to transport pupils, allowing them to participate in a range of extra curricular sports activities.
Commenting on this, Dave said: “I am delighted that these three organisations are to receive a significant amount of funding which will allow them to deliver important services in Ross Shire.
“Youth programmes are an excellent opportunity to improve skills and training, which can have a positive impact on future prospects. Youth unemployment in Scotland is falling, and programmes like those provided by youth Highland can make a significant contribution to this.
“I wish all organisations who have secured a grant every success with their planned activities, and look forward to welcoming future grants from the Big Lottery Fund to Ross Shire.”
