Dave Thompson MSP

Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for the Highlands & Islands, has lodged a parliamentary motion today highlighting the achievement of Portree High School in winning the 2009 BT Scotland National Gaelic Schools Debate.

Represented by Anna MacMullan and Eilidh Robertson, Portree High prevailed over Bishopbriggs at a national debate held in the Scottish Parliament last week.

Commenting, Mr Thompson said: "The competition was top notch and I commend all the participants, particularly Portree's two representatives Anna and Eilidh, for their knowledge of the subject as well as their debating skills.

"I am already looking forward to next year's competition and in the meantime hope Portree High School enjoys its year as BT Scotland National Gaelic Schools Debate champion.

That the Parliament congratulates Portree High School on its victory in the finals of the 2009 BT Scotland National Gaelic Schools Debate competition held in the Scottish Parliament on 25 November 2009; notes that Portree, represented by Anna MacMullan and Eilidh Robertson, prevailed over Bishopbriggs Academy in a competition that featured impressive efforts and talent by all of the competitors, and, finally, commends all participants in the final and preceding heats for their excellent knowledge of the subject and effective delivery of their case in each debate.
